Tees Active League Update: February

Hartlepool Badminton Club top the Gents A Division of the Tees Active League by two points following February’s results. 

Hartlepool sit two points clear of  Marske A and Ormesby A in second and third respectively, despite one win and two defeats last month.

Both Hartlepool and Marske have six wins from eight this season with Hartlepool on 20 points, Marske A 18 and Ormesby A also on 18 points.

Marske A top the Ladies Division by one point while Ormesby A sit third but remain unbeaten so far this season.

Marske top the league on 26 points from their ten games this season, Middlesbrough second on 25 points from 11 games, and Ormesby third with a maximum 21 points from their seven games.

Ormesby earned an emphatic win 9-0 over second-placed Middlesbrough during February and remain on course to defend the title they won last year.

Ormesby also top the Mixed A Division, three points clear of Middlesbrough who have a game in hand on their rivals.

Both teams have lost just once this season and sit on 27 and 24 points.

Below the leaders, all five of the remaining teams are at risk of relegation from the first division with just two points separating third and seventh place.

Acklam, Marske, Ormesby B, Middlesbrough B and St Teresa’s make up the lower places in the league.

Gents A

League leaders Hartlepool suffered their first defeats this season during February after losing 5-4 against both Middlesbrough and Marske A but beat Acklam 6-3 to end the month.

Marske’s win over Hartlepool was their second 5-4 win of the month after they beat Middlesbrough to maintain their title push.

Defending champions Ormesby A suffered a surprise defeat against Marske B for the second time this season.

Ormesby only fielded two pairs in the match against Marske, losing 5-4, and won their other two matches in February beating Middlesbrough 7-2 and Acklam 5-4.

Elsewhere in the division Middlesbrough beat Ackalm 6-3 and Marske B won 5-4 against Ormesby B.

Ladies A

Marske A top the Ladies Division winning their only game in February 6-3 against Westgate.

Middlesbrough beat Hartlepool and Thornaby Pavilion 9-0, and Westgate 8-1, to bounce back from their defeat against Ormesby.

Hartlepool sit fourth after two wins over Marske B, 9-0 on both occasions.

Elsewhere, Westgate beat Thornaby 7-2.

Mixed A

Ormesby A top the Mixed A Division beating Middlesbrough B 8-1.

Middlesbrough A stayed within touch of the leaders with a 6-3 win over Marske A.

In the fight for survival, five teams have three wins this season and are separated by just two points.

Acklam beat Marske A 5-4, Ormesby B beat Middlesbrough B 6-3 and St Teresa’s beat Ormesby B 6-3.

The results leave St Teresa’s and Middlesbrough B on nine points in the relegation places, with Marske and Ormesby B fourth and fifth on ten points and Acklam third on 11.

Gents B

St Tersea’s are eight points clear at the top of the Gents B Division after seven wins from seven this season.

The Darlington outfit beat second placed Hartlepool B 7-2 to ensure they’re overwhelming favourites for promotion to the top flight.

Westgate A beat club rivals Westgate B 7-2 to maintain their fight for the second promotion place.

Hartlepool and Westgate are both on 13 points from their six games with Hartlepool ahead on rubbers difference.

St Matthew’s and Richmond are both without a point this season in sixth and fifth respectively with Westagte B fourth.

Gents C

Thornaby Pavilion lead Gents C Division after eight wins from eight this season.

Thornaby won 9-0 against both Hartlepool C and Westgate C in February to lead Marske C with a game in hand.

Markse C remained in touching distance with the leaders beating Teesside Sport and Marske C 9-0.

In other results third place Teesside Sport beat fifth placed Westgate C 5-4.

Mixed B

Westgate A lead the Mixed B Division after two wins and one defeat in February.

Westgate beat second place Yarm 5-4 and Ormesby C 6-3, but lost 5-4 against Hartlepool meaning they have 16 points from their six games.

Despite the defeat Yarm are in second place on 11 points from five matches with Ormesby C third on nine points but have played eight matches.

Ormesby beat Hartlepool 7-2 and Yarm 5-4 to remain in touch of the promotion places.

Hartlepool’s win and a defeat leaves them fourth level on points with Ormesby but have played two games fewer.

Marske B are bottom of the table five points from five games.

Mixed C

Marske C lead the Mixed C Division after winning their seventh win from seven games this season during February.

Marske beat Middlesbrough C 6-3 in their only game last month.

Second placed Hartlepool B won both of their matches in February beating Westgate C 9-0 and Westgate B 7-2.

Westgate B beat Yarm B 7-2 and sit fourth and Yarm B beat Westgate C 5-4 in fifth.

Mixed D

Huntsman Tioxide lead the Mixed D Division by points difference from Thornaby Pavilion after four wins in February.

Tioxide beat Larchfield Street 9-0, Marske D 6-3 and 8-1 and Teesside Sport 5-4.

Thornaby Pavilion are level with Tioxide at the top of the table on 15 points after five wins from five this season.
